NaNoWriMo and Other Exciting Things

I’ll be straight up here, these ‘other’ things may or may not be exciting for you. Heck, even NaNoWriMo probably seems like some crazy acronym…not something to inspire excitement of all things. BUT! I am excited about these things and this is my blog, so I’m going to just pretend like you are too.

Let’s start with NaNoWriMo (by the way, this stands for National Novel Writing Month). As most of you know, I participated and ended up finishing the first draft of Book 3 in the Converters series. It’s probably a glorified mess. Ah, who am I kidding? It’s just a mess. That’s what editing is for! And I will be doing a lot of editing on this…starting in January. In the meantime, I need to prove to my kids that mommy still knows how to cook and be mentally present.

Or not…which leads me to my next bit of exciting news! I’ve started a new book. Yeah, I did this in November too. Book 3 is pretty intense and I needed something lighter. So in my vast amounts of free time, I started on a fairy tale retelling of The Little Mermaid. Wipe the skepticism from your face, it’s going to be great. I’m doing a gender role-reversal, so the prince is the merman and the princess is the human. I only have around 4,000 words written on it, but the whole thing is plotted out. I’ve written it from a totally different perspective and in a different tense. I just needed different!!

I guess time will tell! After my December break from Converters, I’ll be focusing on edits for a couple of months. Then on to beta readers for a month or two. Then more content editing, and line editing, and more editing. Whenever I need a break from that (or it’s in the hands of beta readers) I’ll be focusing on the fairy tale book.

All in all, I’m excited with the progress I made in November. And doing it all while releasing The Keep feels pretty amazing. Although, now I’m behind on thanking/contacting all those great people who helped promote it. If any of you are reading this, I didn’t forget you. Next week! Next week, I’ll be sharing some bits of reviews and some stats for The Keep. Then you’ll all be completely up to date. Until then, hooray for December and more reading time!!!
