What I’m Reading

Posted By on October 23, 2015 in In the Reading | 0 comments

I couldn’t decide what to blog about today so I looked to my new favorite YouTube channels for some inspiration. For those of you as behind as I am…I’m talking about Book Tubing. (Instead of a website/blog devoted to book talk and reviews this is a YouTube channel with vlogs). I recommend this to any reader or want-to-be-reader—just check out www.youtube.com and search for book tube or a specific book you’re interested in hearing about. Now that I’ve gotten completely off topic…let me spin myself around here. Okay, I found this series of questions (on a tag) on book tube and thought it would be fun to answer for myself. Well, actually for you….since I’m forcing you to read my answers. It’s all about reading today. What I like, what I’m reading, what I want to read, etc. So here we go:

What was the last book you read?

I am a huge Kindle fan. Alright, alright…I’ll admit I’m more of a fanatic, obsessive user. Anyhow, the last book I read was on my Kindle and it had been on there for a long while. It was Frost (Frost Chronicles book one). This was written by an indie author and the cover is amazing so I wanted to give it a try. For some reason, I had a really hard time starting this but decided I needed to read it or delete it. There is some really beautiful writing in this book, but for some reason I didn’t end up loving it. It’s driving me nuts because I can’t figure out exactly why!! I did download Thorn (book two) and am going to give this series another try. Because I don’t know why I didn’t love it, I would recommend it—it’s probably just a preference thing.

What are you currently reading?

Don’t tell my husband, but right now I am reading Seventh Son, the first book in the Last Apprentice series. My husband got into these books on a vacation we took earlier this year and he’s been trying to get me to read them ever since. The series is huge, like twelve books or something. As much as I read, I have a bit of a commitment phobia with huge series. I’m really not sure why. Maybe it’s because I can look at one book and commit hours of my life to it but with a huge series I’m committing days and weeks. As for this book, I’m only about two chapters in so the jury is still out. Well written so far, if not my usual genre.

What is the last book you marked as TBR (To Be Read)?

Cinder, I definitely need to start this series (or so I’ve been told).

What book do you want to read next?

I finished book two in The Selection series about two months ago and want to read The One (book three) pretty badly, but I haven’t been able to get a hold of it yet.

What book to you plan on buying next?

If I cannot find The One, I’ll probably buy it. Other than that, I am really looking into getting the whole Percy Jackson series. My oldest son is starting to get interested in series and I think he would really love it.

Who are your favorite authors?

I’m going to divide this up into two groups: Indie and Traditionally Published
Indie: Annette K. Larsen, K.M. Shea, E.L. Strauss
Traditionally Published: Jane Austen, Jody Hedlund, Shannon Hale, Karen Witemeyer, Gail Carsen Levine

I hope this gives you insight into what I read and some ideas of maybe what you can read next! Ah, so many books so little time!

*Next reading blog I’ll talk about the authors who inspire my writing and why. Some of them didn’t make my favorite list, but deserve a mention!
