A Ranch-style Think Tank

Posted By on July 12, 2014 in In The Writing | 2 comments

I feel like the idea for The Convergence was always there in the back of my mind, it just needed a push forward. That push came when I was working on the ranch for my dad. Ranch work is often a hurry up and wait type of affair. After a couple of high adrenaline moments followed by long periods of down time, I started thinking…what if we could have the mental efficiency and physical capabilities we get in a tight stop without the fear?

I started looking into it; reading about people doing superhuman feats, studying the limitations of our brains. I learned what we’re capable of doing that we aren’t is amazing. And vast.

Next came the story. During my hours spent herding cattle (this can be a fairly mind-numbing task), I wrote the story in my mind. Then I rewrote it, talked plot with my husband, read a lot of Young Adult fiction, and rewrote it again….all in my head.

Finally, I started putting it all in actual print. The story changed even more. Evolved as I become fully involved, but the basic idea remained the same and that’s what The Convergence is about: The power we have and how we choose to use it.

The think tank behind it?

Sweating it out in a saddle.
