Taking the Shot
This is a first. The first blog I’ve posted myself. Until now my wonderful website designer has been taking care of all of that for me (he’s awesome that way). But I didn’t want to have to keep nagging him every time I had something to say/write. So now I’m the administrator/person who’s messing everything up. If I do get this figured out, I guess I’ll be out of excuses and have to keep everything updated. Hmmm. Maybe I should just pass this responsibility right on over to my computer literate husband. I mean, I do have to keep up on my...

If I wasn’t a writer I wouldn’t… This is my little list of things I would never do before I started writing. (I’m gonna bullet this one out.) Eavesdrop on teenager’s conversations. (In my defense, I’m aging and there’s a lot of lingo I need to keep up on.) Ruin movies for my husband. (If the plot doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t—no matter how epic the effects are.) Find myself Googling ‘blood’. (Is this something serial killers would do?) Have my son tell his dad, “Mom’s favorite hobby is writing and hanging out with me.” (By the by, I...
read moreOur Deepest Fear
A friend shared this quote with me the other day and reminded me how much I love it so I decided to pass it along. It all goes back to how we limit ourselves. Out with the limits, in with the impossible! “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world....

read moreA Mower Agent
As I was mowing my lawn today I realized my ideal literary agent would be like a lawn mower. Huh? You say. Just hang with me here… First of all, I don’t want a riding mower (an agent who does all the work). I expect to sweat. However, I DO want a self-propelled agent. One who’s passionate about my book and eager to go. Next, I’d like an agent who’ll cut the excess out of my book. Yes, I think my manuscript is fairly well trimmed, but I’d be an idiot to think it can’t use improvement…er, manicuring. Last of all, I need an agent who’ll help my...
read moreA Ranch-style Think Tank
I feel like the idea for The Convergence was always there in the back of my mind, it just needed a push forward. That push came when I was working on the ranch for my dad. Ranch work is often a hurry up and wait type of affair. After a couple of high adrenaline moments followed by long periods of down time, I started thinking…what if we could have the mental efficiency and physical capabilities we get in a tight stop without the fear? I started looking into it; reading about people doing superhuman feats, studying the limitations of our...
read moreWhat possessed me?
This is the question—the question I’m most frequently asked when friends find out I’ve written a book. I’ll admit, sometimes I ask myself this too. The answer? No, I wasn’t bored. No, I’m not trying to check something off my bucket list. No, I’m not looking for a way to avoid my family. The simple answer is: I thought of a great story to tell—and once the idea clawed its way into my brain, it wasn’t about to let go. So I wrote it. While doing so, I discovered what drives me to write is the same thing that drives me to read: Love of a great...
